"Sorry, I gotta go to work."

CONVERSATION WITH A 2 YEAR OLD:

(After I pack my own lunch, grab a few odds and ends like my monkey, a plastic lamb, a little people person, my plastic keys, my cell phone and put on my own shoes...look closely... I'm ready for my day.)

JONAH: "Okay guys, I gotta go to work now."
MOM and DAD: "Jonah, you can't go to work now."
JONAH: "Sorry I need to."
MOM and DAD: "Sweetie, you can't go to work by yourself."
JONAH: (sigh and head towards the door) "Sorry guys, I have to go to work now. I'll drive Pop's car. I'll come back on Sunday and play with you all day for two days. How does that sound?"
MOM and DAD: "Well Jonah that does sound nice but you still can't go to work by yourself."
JONAH: "It's okay, you can wait for me to get back from work. I'll go in the elevator and push the button and everything. How does that sound?"
MOM and DAD: "It sounds like a nice plan but I don't think you are hearing us. You can't go to work by yourself."

Ever since Dad started work again, this is our morning conversation... a guy's gotta work you know! I'm ready to start carrying my own weight around here! (Well, some of it at least!) All of this has prompted mom to go buy a childproof lock to put on our front door so I can't get out. I've mastered unlocking the door already and although I haven't actually tried to leave they don't want to take any chances. When mom is feeding Zeke I am left unattended for a few minutes so I can't blame her I guess. Sometimes I pretend to go to work when we're actually just going on a walk and sometimes I do get to go to Daddy's school and run around. I'm pretty sure that's all he does there, just run up and down the halls. So the real question is: who doesn't want to go to work?
